Plague outbreak in Tyros

By Trenton Childs, Publisher and Editor of the Tyros Times

A joyous event nearly turned tragic last Monday when the newly appointed Ambassador of Tyros, Videtta Kiranov (who is also a reporter for the Tyros Times), fell ill and collapsed after her pledging ceremony to the Isle of Tyros.  An impromptu celebration was held after the pledging at the outdoor cafe overlooking Tyros.  It was there that Videtta collapsed.

At first it was suspected that perhaps bad mead had lead to her illness, however it was soon discovered to be something far worse.  Videtta, who originally hails from the village of Green Cliffs, was showing signs of the horrible bazi plague that had run rampant through the streets of that village.  The plague had grown so out of control there that the citizens of Green Cliffs felt their only option was to burn their village to the ground and rebuild.

Quickly Videtta was moved to the infirmary at the top of the city, and birds were sent looking for a Physician to treat her condition.  Given the suspicion that she did have bazi plague, all her clothing was removed and burned, and her body was inspected for lice and fleas.   We all waited with concern for a Physician to arrive.  Though through the valiant efforts of Trisha Ireton, and the slaves of our Regent, gypsy and mae, they were able to lower Videtta’s fever and stabilize her.

Hulapop Mahoney, a Physician of Lara arrived to assess the situation.  He soon confirmed our worst fears, that Videtta was indeed suffering from the bazi plague.  Using his impressive skills he was able to treat her condition.  After her fever broke and the danger had passed, all that had helped Videtta had to destroy their clothing by fire, and bathe completely and thoroughly.  Fortunately the Priest Kings smiled upon the Isle of Tyros and plague has not spread any further.

Videtta fully recovered and has assumed her new duties as one of the Ambassadors of Tyros.  All of those of Tyros are reminded to keep things as clean as possible and to remove any pests or fleas immediately.  The plague did not spread this time, but we all must be eternally vigilant so that the fate of Green Cliffs does not befall our homestone.

Assassination attempt at Port Kar

By Videtta Kiranov, Reporter for the Tyros Times

The alarm bells rang in the early morning hours at Port Kar and an assassin climbed the outer walls entering the city.  The warriors of Port Kar responded chasing down the member of the black caste but at a high cost as the first sword received a near fatal wound.
The physicians at the infirmary worked tirelessly attempting to save the mans life and in the end succeeded. They moved about the infirmary with a quiet efficiency that spoke volumes about how often this city is attacked.
Port Kar opens it gates to everyone, but surviving there is difficult.  Pirate raids, assassins often plague and roam the streets.  The dress for free women is very lax, and unlike Tyros, it remains a dangerous place.  More from its own citizens than from any outside raider.

The trouble will continue for a long time as long as they continue to be a refuge for outlaws and pirates.  Until then, it is an exciting city with merchants scurrying for their rooms and everyone keeping an eye on everything.  With the clinic running a medical school because of the many wounded that come through their doors.

New citizens pledge their allegiance to Tyros

By Trenton Childs, Publisher and Editor of the Tyros Times

A ceremony was held on Sunday to welcome the new citizens of the growing family of Tyros.  The ceremony started with the inspiring words of the Head Scribe of Tyros, Emuna Zamani.  With grace and flourish she spoke these words to all who attended, “This day is a joyous one for Tyros. The Swearing of Oaths is normally for the young man or woman that has come of age to take an oath upon themselves in the defense of the city and its inhabitants. It is rare that goreans swear to a new HomeStone.  The loyalty is for life!  But here, today we recognize those that lost their city to siege and those who have had to make the hard decision to separate from their families for a better life.

So today, we are young and the Tyros that looks to the future. For as we look upon the HomeStone that has been brought before us, we see more than just a stone.  We see the ones that have made the pledge before us and the ones that will make after us. These are the people we share salt, bread and fire with . . . This is Tyros and as you follow the instructions of our leader and accept the laurel wreath, you are conferred as a true citizen of Tyros.”   Emuna’s words spoke to the heart and soul of all there.

The Ubar of Tyros, the great Theodoric Delphis, spoke next.  He spoke of Homestone, and what it means to Tyros, “To a Gorean, the homestone oath is the most sacred thing that can be done. There is nothing more meaningful there is no higher bond.  Once taken it is never broken Do not take the oath lightly.  Do so if you are ready to be a Tyrosean for the rest the days that the Priest Kings grant you. Where we stand is symbolic.  Tyros has always been different and our homestone ceremony will follow on that vein.  The security of Tyros is based on the fact that we are an island and that we are at the end of the world .  Therefore it is appropriate that this very island is our homestone, This small stone is symbolic and I place it upon a lager rock.  In truth all the rocks of Tyros are sacred.”

Many pledged that day.  The list is long, and speaks to growing strength of Tyros.  Those pledging that day were (in order of pledging):  Ranger Flow Ambassador of Tyros, Elana Clarity, Vylixan Fallon Magistrate of Tyros, Izzabella Romano, Trenton Childs Historian of Tyros, Emuna Zamani Head Scribe of Tyros, Miranda Marjeta Ubara of Tyros, and Zmilla Rehula.  All were welcomed with open arms by the Ubar as he said, “You are all now those who have sworn my brothers and sisters.  I honor you all and cherish your commitment.”

Many words were spoken by those who pledged.  They all spoke of their commitment to Tyros and their Brothers and Sisters.  From those who newly arrived, such as myself, to the Ubara who helped build Tyros into the great Homestone that it is.  All that spoke, spoke from their heart and soul.

Green Cliffs is being rebuilt

By Videtta Kiranov, Reporter for the Tyros Times

From the ashes of destruction and fire the village of Green Cliffs struggles to place their homestone.  The building has just restarted led by Akita Osnomochi and Darki has begun.  The buildings were all burned to the ground to stop the spread of fleas that had plagued the livestock and forest animals jumping to the human population.

Fredrick Carson, the village head man, took the homestone and the village burned and the villagers stood on a bluff watching as all of their possessions disappear in a puff of smoke.

In the following time, life for the village has not been easy, living in a cave in the wilds of Corcyrus Hills.  But with the homestone in their possession, they have survived.  The spirit of the tiny village lives on in the rebuilding of the houses, and who knows maybe they will soon return to their native lands.  But for now the builders have started the surveying and clean up in anticipation of their return.

Tyros – Hunjer talks

By Trenton Childs, Publisher and Editor of the Tyros Times

Representatives from Hunjer traveled to the Isle of Tyros seeking trade and alliance.  The distinguished dignitaries met with The Regent of Tyros, Galahad Huet.  A banquet was held in their honor, and representatives of the various parts of Tyrosean society were in attendance, including this reporter.

A huge feast was served, and talks progressed.  It was decided that many of Tyros would travel to Hunjer for a tour.  When negotiations are final, and we can all proudly proclaim the Tyros – Hunjer alliance, a formal signing ceremony will be held in Hunjer.  I look forward to traveling to Hunjer and reporting back on the splendors of it.  All of Tyros look forward to welcoming those of Hunjer as Brothers and Sisters.

The Head Slaver of Isles of Tyros has allowed me to aid him in acquiring a "special" assistant for his administrative needs. Although the man is highly intelligent and has a substantial number of years experience, he just can't seem to find the time to learn to read.

This is where YOU come in. If you can read, write, aren't afraid to wrestle a captured panther to the ground to get her name so you can ultimately change it and can work in the worst of conditions, please contact myself, Emuna Zamani, so that I may set up an interview with the Head Slaver and Kennel Mistress *wonders if she should mention to any female applicants that he . . .  Naaah. COMMENTARY A Gorean Free Woman’s Views

By Videtta Kiranov, Reporter for the Tyros Times

It has been a few weeks since I started the paper with Trenton Childs.  And it has been an insightful and interesting experience.  Many citizens have seen me moving around town in my robes of concealment along with Lady Trisha Ireton.  We glide through the city covered from head to toe in our thick robes hidden from sight.

In a city that is known for allowing free women to go unveiled if they chose why would we choose full robes of concealment.  We can go back to a very practical reason. Our beauty is our own.  We conceal it for our safety.  Why would a raider kidnapped us when it is unknown what our physical features are when they can kidnap a beautiful kajira whose charms are open and out there for anyone to see.

I remember to my first week here when Lady Heather had been kidnapped injured severely and left for dead on the docks.  Would this have happened if she had been covered in our shapeless robes her hair bound up under her heavy veils that even shaded her eyes.  If she had maintained the stoic discipline that is known to free women.  It is a question to ponder.

Do we as Gorean’s want to put the cities most precious treasure’s, their free women of high caste in such jeopardy that they are easily targeted?  Is the simple light veil that most free women wear enough to keep them safe, or just enough for custom?  How would the streets of Gor look with free women clad in their caste colors covered from head to toe moving around stately and mysterious? Think about these questions as we strive to make Gor more Gor and watch the challenges that those fully concealed enjoy and the ease with which we can keep our secrets.

Treason and dissension amongst the warriors of Tyros

By Trenton Childs, Publisher and Editor of the Tyros Times

Rumors and innuendo have been running rampant amongst the scarlet caste of the Island of Tyros.  Some have accused the First Sword, Thalgar Heron of being disrespectful and dishonorable, while others defend him for being a tough leader.  Time will tell which is the more accurate description of the always controversial First Sword of Tyros.  The latest incident for the scarlet caste of Tyros was the treason of the warrior Zucriy Reinard.  Zuc as he was called, tried to a make a treasonous deal with the panthers captured on the rescue mission of the Master of Arms, Cowboy Cooperstone.  He specifically tried to make a deal that would offer up the entire city of Tyros in return for the death of one man, that one man is Thalgar Heron.  How is it that one man can instill such hatred in his subordinates that they would surrender the city they pledged to protect if he were killed?  Is this a case of an over ambitious warrior looking to move up the ladder of rank by killing his commander, or is it a case of a good man pushed to his limits by a First Sword who is anything but the right man for the job?  Only time will tell.

Beyond the speculation, we know these facts to be clear.  Zuc’s offer of treason to the panthers was found out.  The panthers gave up all the information that was necessary to convict the warrior of treason.  Reading the statement written by the panther and aknowledged as credited by Thalgar, this was what Zuc had wanted:
" Let me introduce myself first, I am Zukriy of the Tyros Guardsmen. My position allows me to go places and do things that you ladies cannot. I want revenge for what a male in that city did to a beloved kajira, and you panthers would like your vengance as well i'm sure.
THere are things that are considered honorable, and those in that damned caste that would no sooner rape a woman and kill her without thinking twice about it. I want his head. The head of the First Sword of Tyros.
Reinard: In return I would deliver the city to you on a silver platter."

Questioned by the panther for more details, he goes on to state:
"He goes by the name of Thalgar... an arrogant asshole indeed. He runs us guardsmen with orders that are far to atrocious to mention. I dare not take a life of anymore innocents and I pray his crimes be held accountable."

Finally, to get more details, the panther asked what exactly was wanted.
"I'm proposing I help you organize a group to destroy Tyros and take it by force! Loot it and add to your camp! But leave the Kajira and its women alone. I will deliver it all to you as much as I can."

Zucriy Reinard sealed his fate with his treason.  His reasons as stated in the information gathered from the panthers were not denied by him.  He was brought before the First Sword and Regent, for judgment.  Many were there to witness the events.  The Regent Galahad Huet demanded reasons for Zuc’s treason, and in the end the only reasons Zuc could offer was for revenge against the First Sword.  The Regent then ordered Zucriy Reinard put to death by impalement.

Zucriy Reinard accused the First Sword, Thalgar Heron of many unspeakable acts, including rape and murder.  Accusations, if proven true, that would lead many to call Thalgar dishonorable and unworthy of his position.  In time we will all know if his reasons were accurate and truthful, or completely false.  The truth will out.  In time we will know where the truth lays.  One thing that can be said with absolute conviction and certainty is that treason is never the answer.  For even if all that he claims is true, one must never dishonor their pledge to their homstone.

Plague ravages Green Cliffs

By Videtta Kiranov, Reporter for the Tyros Times

It began several days ago when a tarn at the tarnkeepers aerie turned up dead having chocked on its own vomit. The hunters noticed more dead animals in the woods and even domestic animals in the next several days.  The first human victims were a lady of Green Cliffs, Darki and a kajira named Tiny.  The tarnskeeper Marauder followed shortly.  The village scribe, Videtta, stumbled upon them and sent a frantic bird to Tyros and Corcyrus for assistance.

Lady Rogue McDonnell from Tyros responded arriving quickly via tarn with an entourage and moved the stricken members of Green Cliffs to the longhouse, the biggest building in the tiny village.  There she examined the fallen free woman and discovered the plague had been transferred by fleas to the humans where it burrowed under the skin causing this illness.

She enlisted the scribes help in treating the plague and ordered that the patients be stripped examined and bathed.  The treatment was to find a red welt and remove the flea that was buried there.  The she ordered that every member of the village be examined and all of their clothing including the veils of the free women be burned.  Fresh clothing was sent from Corcyrus as all of the clothing in the village needed to be burned along with all of the dead animals.

However, the illness that swept through Green Cliffs was not at an end.  The joyous celebration of Sean and Stormie’s free companion ceremony was darkened by the symptoms emerging in several of the guests that attended.  It quickly spread throughout the village and the village fled the area leaving behind their homes, clothing, furniture and livestock.  A nearby panther tribe also suffered the same problems and lit the camp on fire, burning it to the ground.  Green Cliffs followed suit setting their own buildings on fire as they left.  The fire jumped to the forest and spread rapidly through the trees.

Green Cliffs and the surrounding forest were burned to the ground and the city of Corcyrus set up a refugee camp for the displaced citizens whose sole possession they took from Green Cliffs was their homestone.

Cowboy captured and rescued

By Trenton Childs, Publisher and Editor of the Tyros Times

The Master of Arms of Tyros was captured by a panther tribe last Friday.  Through the intervention of the forces of Tyros, and Tem-Wood, Cowboy was rescued and the panther scum that captured him were thoroughly punished.  As told to this reporter by the First Sword of Tyros, Thalgar, “Cowboy was brought back to the city by panthers to trade, and it was there that Zucriy Reinard and Tyler Omizu went to the gates. The panthers quickly retreated, refusing a trade, and it was there that Zucriy followed them, leaving trails for the newly mustered warriors of Tyros to follow in his wake. Thalgar immediately mustered the soldiers of Tyros that he could find, that being Galahad Huet, Tyler Omizu, a recent recruit in RicardX Voom, and also the warriors of Tyros' colony, Tem-Wood, being MD Convair and Maddox Vlodovic. EiHAB Saeed, Ubar of Tem-Wood, was also ready to assist if needed.”

The combined forces made their way through the woods  After a fierce back and forth battle the first captured panther was brought back to Tyros by the Regent Galahad for interrogation and to be held as a prisoner.  The valiant forces of Tyros and Tem-Wood used a retreated to lore the panthers out of their makeshift fortress in the woods.  The outcome of the maneuver was described by the First Sword, “The retreat back to the outpost was a brilliant strategic move. It did not give the men a better view into the camp - what it did was bring the panthers out. Eager for the chance to capture what they believed to be vulnerable men, what instead happened was the panthers left their easily defendable fortress. Two more panthers came out, and they then were captured. Zuciry and Maddox were given the honors of taking the women back to Tyros. During the ongoing confusion, the panther that had captured Cowboy was then brought out and captured by Thalgar. Once having untied Cowboy from his bindings, Cowboy was given the right to take her back. Before this, but unknown to the other men, RicardX Voom had caught a downed panther who had been screaming in the forest.”  After binding, stripping, searching, and then selling the panthers for a large ransom, the men went back to their average guard duties.

Corcyrus offers refuge

By Videtta Kiranov, Reporter for the Tyros Times

After the plague that has destroyed Green Cliffs the city of Corcyrus has given the villagers refuge.  Green Cliffs is under the protection of Corcyrus from the beginning.  The citizens and slaves of Corcyrus have donated food, supplies, clothing, and sheltered to the homeless village until their home can be rebuilt.

Thanks were given to the priest kings for the temporary home of the village and in exchange the village stands look out for Corcyrus in case of a raid.  The retreat itself is a cave that overlooks a popular landing site for raiders.  The hunters and warriors of Green Cliffs stand watch over the camp.  Most of the free women were sent to live with family in other cities until the home can be rebuilt but a couple them have no other place to go and do the best they can in the cave.

Corcyrus should be applauded in its generosity and the way it has extended assistance to the village in need.  Without their assistance the village would have been lost to Gor.

Klima closed

By Videtta Kiranov, Reporter for the Tyros Times

The prison city of Klima has disappeared into the desert.  No one knows what has happened to it and why the wild desert took the city.  Klima has long been the prison city of Gor, closed to free women and kajira and used to house some of the most violent criminals in Gor.  The salt mines were mined by slaves with a handful of free men overseeing them.

Klima is noted for its white and red salt, the red salt having an iron content to it.  The salt was shipped all over Gor in guarded caravans.  Due to the isolated nature of mine and the harsh desert that surrounded it the prison was seldom raided.  So its disappearance off of the map remains a mystery.

SUICIDE OF THE DISHONORABLE BRAYDON PARX
By Trenton Childs, Publisher and Editor of the Tyros Times
*************************************************
Braydon Parx a member of the blue caste of Tyros committed suicide, the last dishonorable act in a trail of dishonor that started with the fraudulent filling of a doctored free companionship paper, and ended at the bottom of a cliff.  The man, if one can call someone who acts with such dishonor a man, entered quickly into a free companionship with fellow scribe Barbi Sciarri.  While we can debate the proper amount of time one should court before a companionship, no one can debate that falsifying documents and fraud is ever proper.

The crux of the fraud lay in the altering of key terms at the end of the contract.  The Tyros Times acquired copies of the unaltered and altered documents.  These excerpts show the fraud.

Actual Document:
“All properties of Both parties are to Be Held with in their respective  rights of Ownership i.e  property, houses ,apartments, slaves , gold ,silver, gems or jewels, shall be jointly owned.

~It is understood by both parties that Lady Barbi Sciarri will remain in Tyros with her companion Braydon Parx.”

Fraudulent Document:
“It is understood by both parties that Lady Barbi Sciarri will remain in Tyros with her companion Braydon Parx.  The following terms have been established under the initiation of this Free Companionship contract, Lady Barbi is hearby forbidden to leave the gates of Tyros without the escort of her companion Sir B.Parx or by someone that has been given full permission and authority to take his companion from the city by Sir B.Parx.  Any action that B.Sciarri  takes part in that can be seen as unfaithful to her beloved Braydon Parx will result in direct punishment and a possible force collaring.  Jointly owned properties include all of, except, Braydon Parx's; 1. Living Quarters, 2.Furniture, 3. Possible OffSpring, 4. Entire Wealth.  All secrets must be revealed to Braydon Parx, any reason to believe that B.Sciarri is hiding something can result in a trial and if found guilty will result in serious consequences.  Lastly, by entering this companionship both persons invloved promise to keep each other loved and protected as long as the companionship term is valid, unless one of the above terms which has been mentioned takes place, and therefore will result in further actions being taken by Sir Braydon Parx.”

The obvious fraud was caught by Galahad Huet the Regent of Tyros.  When the despicable free man brought the scroll to the Regent for his seal, he thought the terms to be quite unusual, and sought out Barbi Sciarri to confirm she had read the document before signing it.  She nearly fainted when she read the terms that were added to the scroll, after she had already signed it, according to the Regent.  At that point this became a legal matter for the Magistrate of Tyros.  The Magistrate found Braydon Parx guilty and ordered all his property to be seized and given to Barbi Sciarri.  He was then stripped of his position and ordered to the service of the Ambassador of Tyros, Ranger Flow, for rehabilitation into the blue caste.  It was a more then fair sentence.  Once again, showing the even handed strength and justice of the city of Tyros.

Later that night, the dishonorable man took his life by jumping from a high place, but not before he dishonored himself yet again, by professing his love for another woman, and blaming all of Tyros for his dishonor.  The end of a very undistinguished life, one that will only be remembered for dishonor.  The Ubar and Regent of Tyros have ordered that Braydon Parx name must never be mentioned in the city limits of Tyros.

GREEN CLIFFS
By Videtta Kiranov, Reporter for the Tyros Times

This is a joyful event that all of Gor should celebrate with toasts and well wishes even if they are not able to attend.  May the Priest Kings look favorably upon this union.

(Update)
Cowboy Cooperstone has been freed and is now in the process of dealing with the panther scum that captured him.  Our most sincere thanks go out to all the warriors of Tyros that defend us so well.

STRANGER IN THE CAVE
By Lady Barbi Sciarri, Reporter for the Tyros Times
*************************************************
As I was taking a walk near the river one evening under the three moons, I encountered a strange and frightening apparition. As he neared me, I could make out his appearance in the moonlight...he had long, shaggy hair and beard, was dirty and shirtless, and looked disoriented. I froze. He approached me, and my fear lessened as he related his story.

It seems he had woken up in our caves, unable to recall how he got there, and barely able to speak. He was hungry and weak. I took pity on the man, and at first suggested he obtain work in the vineyards, as it was honest work, and would quickly provide him nourishment. As I watched him, I realized he was quite muscular and had the build and look of a warrior. I had a better idea.

Since I have recently come into a large sum of money, I decided to help this unfortunate man, and offer him a position as my personal guard. He accepted, and I gave him a silver coin as a retainer. He promises to groom and dress himself properly, and be available to protect me when I travel, or take moonlit walks alone. Please welcome him (Minollo Menges.) He may not be able to speak much, but my instincts tell me this man was once a great warrior.

A FREE WOMAN GETS HER COMEUPANCE
By Trenton Childs, Publisher and Editor of the Tyros Times
************************************************
Serena Balut formerly of Laura was forced collared this week for the brutal assault on the property of the Ubar and Ubara of Tyros.  In a bizarre incident the unruly free woman maliciously attacked the slave of the Ubar and Ubara.  Throwing the girl against the wall and beating her till she was near dead.  All this occurred after the slaves in Serena’s presence refused to jump into tharlarion infested waters.  For this “offence” the insane free woman beat the most experienced slave there for not obeying.  Soon after the outrage a kill on sight order was placed on the life of Serena Balut.

Once captured the merciful Ubara Miranda Marjeta spared the worthless woman’s life and gave her the option of death or enslavement.  Given this most judicial choice Serena chose submission to collar.  She was then collared by the Regent of Tyros Galahad Huet, for the house of Delphis, to serve at the whim of the Ubar and Ubara.  After her collaring she was dragged naked to the slums of Tyros for all to witness her branding as a slave.  Though she pretended that she was fully submitted, it was obvious to all who witnessed, including your humble correspondent, that serena, as she is to be called in her slavery, did not fully realize what complete submission was till marked with the branding iron.  The smell of burning flesh in the air sealed her fate as a slave, a commodity to be used, sold, or killed at the whim of the free who own her.  The mark of the kef on her body finally made her realize what a mistake she made insulting the Ubar and Ubara of Tyros.

Let this be a lesson to all free that damaging and destroying the property of the Ubar Theodoric Delphis will lead to swift punishment.  This is especially a good lesson for all free women.  Free women are only free because free men allow them to be.  Any free woman who so openly violates the laws of Tyros and the property of its leaders should be prepared for death or enslavement.

HEATHER IS CAPTURED
By Videtta Kiranov, Reporter for the Tyros Times
*********************************************
Today Heather, sister of our physician Foxxie, was brutally kidnapped by an assailant known only as Darius bodly entered the docks of the free city of Tyros.  This assault happened shortly after Heather had collared a new Kajiru in the company of the Ubara Miranda, and the Scribe Videtta.

Darius approached the ladies shortly after the kajiru was captured and introduced himself only as Darius.  Miranda and Videtta returned to the walls with the new Tyros kajiru while Heather stayed behind to show the stranger the city.  After the other women had left Darius spoke for a bit longer with Heather and drew his sword and struck her down before the guards could come to her aid.

He worked with quick precision and dragged her abroad a boat that was waiting for him.  It set sail without filing a destination with the dock master. Lady Heather  was returned a short while later badly wounded.  Inside sources have revealed that she was kidnapped specifically, and that Darius had been paid to do so.  However, Tyros is at this time unsure of who ordered the kidnapping.

It is my pleasure to introduce you to the new on-line version of the Tyros Times.  This blog is dedicated to the second Life Gorean sim of Tyros.  All editions of the Tyros Times newspaper will be reproduced here and open to comments.  I hope that this blog will be a place for all of Tyros and Gor to express their opinions on the happenings in Gor.  Let me know what you think of the Tyros Times and the information included in it.
